SMPS Sacramento Newsletter - August 2026 Print

President's Message

As many of us know from our own personal experience, most AEC marketers entered the industry from another background or college major. Luckily, SMPS provides resources and continuing education opportunities at both the national and chapter level to help our marketers stay at the forefront of marketing for the AEC industry.

One such resource is Amplify, a conference for marketers, business developers, and firm leaders in the AEC industry. Last month, some of SMPS Sacramento’s chapter members represented our chapter at this annual event, where they learned from the AEC industry’s boldest minds. At the event, the SMPS Foundation released another valuable resource: its 2027 Emerging Trends Report. This report highlights the key marketing and business shifts shaping the future, strategies being adopted by AEC firms, and insights to help guide leadership and marketing decisions. This is a must-read report for SMPS marketers, business developers, strategists, and firm leaders. Fortunately, SMPS Sacramento has purchased this report for our members, and it can be downloaded from the Marketing Resource Center page (member login required to access). Please download this report, take the time to read it, and provide key insights from this report to your firm’s leaders.

Another big resource available to SMPS Members is the Certified Professional Services Marketing (CPSM) certification. CPSM is a voluntary certification designed to elevate the professional standards in AEC marketing and influence the future of this vital field. It serves as a mark of distinction for professional service marketers and business developers, raising their standing with employers, peers, and the public. The study material and SMPS Body of Knowledge necessary for the certification are referred to as MARKENDIUM and act as a mini college course in AEC marketing. All SMPS Pacific Region Chapters have joined forces to host a dynamic (and virtual) CPSM study program. This study group offers participants the opportunity to interact with peers and facilitators from across the West, learning from some of the region’s most accomplished marketing professionals. For those considering pursuing their CPSM certification, please note the 2026 Fall Cohort Study Group kicks off September 5th

Whether you’re looking to sharpen your skills, expand your perspective, or take the next step in your professional development, SMPS offers resources to support you throughout your AEC marketing career. Take advantage of these opportunities to keep learning, stay connected, and bring new knowledge and ideas back to your firm.

The SMPS Research Subcommittee is currently conducting a People and Culture Survey and they would greatly appreciate our input. Here’s the link to the survey: People and Culture Survey 2026.

It takes approximately 15 minutes to complete, and it will help identify trends, highlight opportunities to strengthen engagement and retention, and provide leaders with insights to better support their people.
