To start off, what year did you start in SMPS?
I started in SMPS in 2003
What was your role or title when you first joined SMPS?
I was a Marketing Coordinator when I first joined
What were you doing back in 1984?
In 1984, I was in college
How did you get into AEC marketing?
I was working in the political arena and wanted something less stressful
What technological or software advancement has been the most impactful in your career?
Improvements to CRM programs have been the most impactful
What has been your favorite industry change?
My favorite change has been the shift to almost no printed proposals anymore, which means no more rushing to get them delivered at the last minute
What was your firm doing in 1984? Any big milestones or projects?
My firm was just getting started in 1984, focusing on historic preservation in Washington, DC
What is your favorite SMPS memory?
My favorite memory is being on the Board for a few years with a wide range of people, which helped me really understand the industry better
What was your presidency like? What were the challenges, normal day-to-day activities, and accomplishments?
I had a great board, and during my presidency, we held very large monthly meetings with client presentations and lots of training opportunities
What were some of the programs or educational events that you hosted, or what has been your favorite program or educational event?
I still love a good client roundtable. We held several of those for different sectors of our industry. We also hosted the first PRC in Sacramento the year I was president, thanks to several years of planning by previous board chairs and people like Dawn Savage and others who got us off the ground that year
What is your biggest lesson learned or best piece of advice?
Love what you do
Why do you love SMPS?
I love SMPS because of the people. My SMPS colleagues are my friends, mentors, job network, etc. I could not have done this job without the people
Is there anything else you would like to share about the Sacramento region, SMPS, or the AEC industry in or since 1984?
I appreciate all of the opportunities being involved with SMPS has given me both professionally and personally
Ah, the college days! What was your favorite 80s fashion style?
I loved big hair, tops and jackets with large shoulder pads, scrunchies, jean shorts, neon everything, jelly sandals, and leggings
What rad 80s hairstyle did you rock?
I rocked a big blowout
What was your favorite 80s dance move?
Disco was my favorite
What was your favorite 80s band?
Journey was my favorite band

Eddie Money was my favorite concert
